Taking an Electric Scooter on the Train

Ever wondered what it’s like taking an electric scooter on the train?

Having to get from Chester to Canterbury to pick up a new company vehicle during lockdown presented some challenges. I figured the E-scooter was worth taking. It could save not only the cost of three taxis, but would also be safer from a Covid avoidance perspective.

After checking that the train companies didn’t have any objections, I was good to go. I dropped the scooter into the van and drove into Chester, then scooted from the car park to Chester station. I hopped on a train to London Euston, scooted to St Pancras, then caught another train to Canterbury. From there, it was a three mile scoot to the dealership.

All three scooter journeys passed off without any problem, and using Google Maps on my phone ensured I took the shortest routes. Carrying a 22kg scooter up and down stairs and onto the trains meant I didn’t go without exercise either, but I’m used to it.

The scooter proved a bit long to go between seats, so it stuck out in the aisle a bit. I suppose this isn’t really an issue on empty trains.

Just enough space to take it in with me…

So, it turns out that taking an electric scooter on the train isn’t so bad. Have you done it before? What was your experience like?
