The scooter has proven its practicality with the VW camper van. But what about using it with a full- blown motorhome? I got the chance to find out recently, with a day trip in a Mobilvetta K-Yacht 80 Motorhome.
It dwarfs my camper. It’s as wide as a coach, with a lot more internal space for those longer trips. It has a big enough garage to accommodate our scooters, with enough room for a few other items. There’s no need for a bike rack and the faff of strapping stuff to it.
Plus, there’s a decent sized bathroom for the girls. The downside of course, is that it’s too big of a unit to drive down those small lanes. Especially if you want to use it to get away from it all. But that’s where the scooters come in.
The trial trip proved a winner. We left the motorhome in a suitable car park and went off exploring on two wheels before returning for some lunch. The motorhome has an external three pin plug and several internal ones, allowing for simultaneous recharging when on an electric hookup at a campsite.
This scooter/motorhome combo worked so well, that we hatched a plan to take one to Scotland for our summer holiday, and drive/scoot some of the NC500 route. We plan to park on the edge of towns and scoot in, or park in a layby on main roads and scoot down the side lanes. Fingers crossed that the restrictions are all a fading memory by then!
