With the weather warming up and adventures looking more likely, I bought the Apeman A100 Camera for my E-scooter. The likelihood of it breaking or getting stolen was a major factor in this decision. So, I decided to try a cheaper alternative to the market leading GoPro. This camera is a quarter of the cost.
My thoughts
The first challenge was fitting it to the handlebars. It comes with a multitude of attachments, but not much in the way of instructions. Luckily, a YouTube video came to the rescue and it was soon up and working.
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The anti-shake works reasonably well. The remote control, which is a two button device, is a godsend. It fits in my pocket and means I can stop and start recording and take stills. All without having to fiddle with the camera.
I do find the 2” screen fairly difficult to read in sunlight. But the biggest issue is getting the handlebar attachments to stay tight enough to stop the camera tilting when going over rough ground. The attachment tends to work itself loose – a better method for fixing must be possible?
The second issue is the battery life on the camera. The battery goes flat after about 40 minutes of filming, which scuppered my plans for a day of recording on a recent trip to Kent. Using a USB battery pack would help to solve this issue, but who wants the extra hassle?
Overall, buying the Apeman A100 camera for my E-scooter has been worthwhile. Now I just need to up my filming game!
